PROGRAM:

For over four decades, The Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio illuminated the musical world and Peoples' Symphony Concerts' seasons with insightful and captivating performances and recordings of the piano trio literature, commissioning important new works for generations to come. This afternoon's program is dedicated, with affection and admiration to Joseph Kalichstein, who passed away in March 2022. It is a program that he was to play and his presence will surely be felt by all of us.

Bio: 

Jaime Laredo

Performing for over six decades before audiences across the globe, Jaime Laredo has excelled in the multiple roles of soloist, conductor, recitalist, pedagogue, and chamber musician. Since his stunning orchestral debut at the age of eleven with the San Francisco Symphony, he has won the admiration and respect of audiences, critics and fellow musicians with his passionate and polished performances. His annual Christmastime concerts at Carnegie Hall conducting the exceptional young musicians of the New York String Orchestra Seminar, whom he has mentored for almost thirty years, are a highlight of each season.

Nokuthula Endo Ngwenyama

As a violist and a composer, Nokuthula Endo Ngwenyama’s performances as orchestral soloist, recitalist and chamber musician, as well as her compositions for major orchestras, soloists and ensembles have garnered great attention. Gramophone Magazine proclaims her as “providing solidly shaped music of bold mesmerizing character.” As a composer, Uptown Magazine featured her as “A Poet of Sound.” She has previously performed as a guest artist with the Trio for PSC.

Sharon Robinson

Winner of the Avery Fisher Recital Award, the Piatigorsky Memorial Award, the Pro Musicis Award, and a Grammy Nominee, cellist Sharon Robinson is recognized worldwide as a consummate soloist, chamber music artist and pedagogue. In addition to many acclaimed recordings with The Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio and duos with Jaime Laredo, she can be heard in chamber music recordings from Marlboro and with such artists as Isaac Stern and Yo-Yo Ma.

Anna Polonsky

Anna Polonsky is widely in demand as a soloist and chamber musician. She has collaborated with the Guarneri, Orion, Daedalus, and Shanghai Quartets, and with such musicians as Mitsuko Uchida, Yo-Yo Ma, David Shifrin, Richard Goode, Emanuel Ax, Arnold Steinhardt, Peter Wiley, and Jaime Laredo. She has performed chamber music at festivals such as Marlboro, Chamber Music Northwest, Seattle, Music@Menlo, Cartagena, Bard, and Caramoor, as well as at Bargemusic in New York City.
