Dvorak & Burleigh Tribute:

Before Washington Irving High School was built, Irving Place & 17th Street was occupied by the National Conservatory of Music of which Dvorak was the Director in the 1890s. So to honor our roots, we are paying tribute to the great Czech composer and to the baritone and composer H.T Burleigh who introduced him to 'American' music that influenced him greatly in such works as the 'New World Symphony' and the 'American' Quartet which we will hear on this wonderfully varied program.

BIOs:

Roderick Williams OBE

Roderick Williams is one of today’s most sought after baritones and is in constant demand on the concert platform and in recital, encompassing a repertoire from the baroque to world premieres. In 2016, in his native Britain, he won the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society’s Singer of the Year award. At the world’s leading opera houses, with the most prominent symphony orchestras, and in the major concert venues, Roderick Williams has been hailed for the beauty of his voice and his exquisite musicality.

Yi-Heng Yang, piano

Pianist Yi-heng Yang has been described as an “exquisite collaborator (Opera News), “suberbly adept (Gramophone)” and has been noted for her “remarkable expressivity and technique (Early Music Magazine).” Passionate about performing music of many eras and genres, she is also recognized as one of the leading fortepianists and early keyboardists of her generation.

Yi-heng is on the faculty of The Juilliard School, where she teaches piano, improvisation, and historical performance.

Parker Quartet

Inspiring performances, luminous sound, and exceptional musicianship are the hallmarks of the Grammy Award-winning Parker Quartet. Renowned for its dynamic interpretations and polished, expansive colors, the group has rapidly distinguished itself as one of the preeminent ensembles of its generation, dedicated purely to the sound and depth of their music. Now in its eighth year as Blodgett Artists-in-Residence at Harvard University, the Parker Quartet has appeared at the world’s most important venues since its founding 2022.
